Regal Entertainment Press Release

Horror fans are in for a big treat when Regal Entertainment's "Shake, Rattle and Roll 9" (SRR9) opens in theaters nationwide on December 25. Not only does SRR9 have the biggest stars from ABS-CBN and GMA7 (namely Dennis Trillo, Katrina Halili, Roxanne Guinoo, Pauleen Luna, John Prats, Lovi Poe, Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, Mart Escudero, Jewel Mische, Felix Roco, Nash Aguas, Sam Concepcion and many more) it also has the most impressive horror visuals and most difficult-to-mount scenes in cinema history.

Consisting of three episodes, the budget of each is comparable to the cost of making one big horror movie. So the viewer will feel that he is watching three big horror movies, instead of only one.

SRR 9 opens with a story about a harmless-looking Christmas Tress that turns into a monster after the full moon casts light upon it. The tree alone (without the monster visuals) is 8-feet tall and filled with pricey trimmings. Turning it into a monster was a great and expensive challenge for Director Paul Daza, production designer Egay Littaua, visuals expert Noel Flores and the artists at Roadrunner Network Inc (RNI). " Ang tree talaga ang nagpamahal sa episode na ito," confirms Paul. The result is a creative so enormous and terrifying. The stars stopped in their tracks when they saw the tree completely for the first time.

In the second episode "Bangungot," a red-cloaked figure is after Roxanne Guinoo who did a spell to dream of the man she wants -- Dennis Trillo. A flyover in Manila was closed to shoot a very thrilling chase between the red-cloaked Bangungot and protagonists. Stars Roxanne, Dennis, with Pauleen Luna, the staff and director Mike Tuviera shot from night till the wee hours of the morning. The shooting literally stopped traffic as a long line of cars formed outside of the road block. The challenging sequence was capped with a death-defying stunt done by Dennis.

Meanwhile, "Engkanto," was shot at a beach resort located three hours away from Metro Manila. A big, grotesque tree was built on the set. For the crucial face-off between Engkanto Katrina Halili and the members of the band headed by Matt Evans and Melissa Ricks, countless talents were recruited; each was fitted with zombie costumes and made to wear prosthetics. Through imaginative lighting and design, director Topel Lee, production designer Mark Sabas, visuals expert Noel Flores and their teams successfully turned the premiere vacation spot into a site of extreme terror.

Director Mike speaks on behalf of his co-directors Paul and Topel when he summarizes the scare factor of SRR9. He says, "The stories are creepy. The concepts are new and original. Ang daming scare!" "Shake, Rattle and Roll 9," an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival, is definitely a must-see. It is supported by Aficionado, Bratts, Hang Ten and Love Radio.
